Updated: 4.30.12 - Word from the Coach!
Man, it was great to get football back in Jim Frazier Stadium. This morning we had nearly 100 athletes here at 6:45 in the morning for our Winning Edge Workout! The weather was absolutely beautiful with a Golden Sunrise...almost makes you think that God himself is a Yellow Jacket Fan!!
Today, we worked on the fundamentals of the game. After evaluating film during the offseason, the coaching staff agreed that we needed to improve in our tackling posture and technique. Today, we addressed that issue and worked drills that focus on posture pre and post contact. We also drilled how to create explosion at contact by using force generated from the hips.
In the past, we have used Winning Edge Workouts to acclimate our athletes to the rigor of work they will see during Spring Football. We feel like the majority of our players have been extensively involved in our strength and conditioning program and think this time would be better spent on fundamentals of the game.
The old coaching cliché is: “Successful football always begins with good blocking and tackling” and I couldn’t agree more.
We are looking forward to this football season and working with this group of young men!

The Varsity Football Team will begin "Winning Edge" workouts Monday April 30th at 6:45 am on the football field. Players should wear workout clothing appropriate to the weather conditions and cleats.
Workouts will be:
Monday - 6:45 am start, working football fundamentals and techniques
Tuesday - 6:45 am start, working football fundamentals and techniques
Wednesday - 6:45 am start, working football fundamentals and techniques
Thursday - 6:45 am start, modified workout ending with equipment issue
Friday - finish equipment issue and team breakfast!!
Participation is necessary to be evaluated by the coaching staff and to get prepared for spring football. See Coach Shackelford if you have any questions.
