The two schools are 3.5 miles apart in East Cobb County and are long-standing rivals. Both teams are currently in GHSA Region 7-AAAAA, SouthWest (B) SubRegion.
Sprayberry and Pope first played in 1988 (Sprayberry won 24-21) and have played 16 games. Pope holds an 11-5-0 advantage. Their last meeting (also on a Thursday at Pope) was a 27-21 last-minute Greyhound comeback win in 2011.
Playing in Region 5-AAAA in 2011, Sprayberry finished with an overall record of 5-6 and a playoff appearance. Pope finished 2011 with an overall record of 10-2, the Region 5-AAAA Title, and a playoff appearance.
The Yellow Jackets were ranked #26 (of 75) in Class 5A during pre-season 2012, whereas the Greyhounds were ranked #19. The Yellow Jackets are currently ranked #50 among all Class 5A teams with an overall record of 2-4, while the Greyhounds are currently ranked #37 with an overall record of 4-2.
