Sprayberry Football

The Sprayberry Jr Jackets were founded in the 1980s as a middle school football program for 7th and 8th Graders in the Sprayberry High School district.  For years, the Jr Jackets were administered separately from the High School Varsity team and its Touchdown Club, with only nominal sponsorship through the use of "Sprayberry" and "Jackets" as mascots.  Although home games were played at Jim Frazier Stadium (as they are today), practices were held originally at Daniell Middle School.

The Jr Jackets are charter members of the Georgia Middle School Athletic Association (GMSAA) -- formerly the North Georgia Football League (NGFL) -- and even hosted the league's inaugural championships and all-star games in 1992.  The league, along with the Jr Jackets, initiated play for combined 5th and 6th Grade teams in 2005.

In 2008, the Varsity and Touchdown Club assumed broader roles in the administration and coordination of the Jr Jackets program (e.g., the assignment of a dedicated Jr Jackets Coordinator) and invested in new equipment and facilities, such as the Jr Jackets Fieldhouse.

The Jr Jackets have players from three schools playing under the Sprayberry banner: Daniell Middle School, McClesky Middle School, and Simpson Middle School.

The current state of the Jr Jackets program is strong.  It has a dedicated Coordinator, new facilities, new equipment, a 38% increase in player registrations, strong Touchdown Club support, committed coaches, and great parent involvement.  The upcoming transition from natural grass to synthetic turf at Jim Frazier Stadium will no doubt enhance the Jr Jackets experience even more.
