From The ECHO (Spring 1970):
"Sprayberry's 1969 football team provided the school and the community many thrills and rekindled a fire in the hearts of many devoted followers who desire to see the Yellow Jackets back at the top in football once again.
Every outstanding group has fine leaders. Our entire group of Seniors was outstanding, but the following boys provided the finest leadership in the early part of the season when the going was the toughest: Don Wilcox, Wyatt Wood, Bob Evans, Ronnie Penland, Remer Willis, Gerald Upchurch, Tommy Evans, Larry Johnson, and Ronnie Crumbley. As the season progressed, several others also showed fine leadership. When the team lost Andy Cain, Don Wilcox, and James Kemp to crippling injuries before the season started, and Tommy Evans during the first game, it had to have fine leadership in order to avoid a disastrous season."
