From The ECHO (Spring 2009):
"After a rough start to the season, the Varsity Football Team has managed to come out on top . They endured countless bear crawls along with tough, somtimes never-ending practices, that helped them turn around their season.
'Everyday of the week we all worked 110% and gave our best,' stated Junior Will Cowart. And it showed when they played on Friday Night, winning a big 23-14 against Starr's Mill, and a huge 50-7 against Osborne.
'You could tell they were not going to let a couple of non-Region losses affect the outcome of their season,' recalled Senior Josh Orfe. With the help of Senior Eddir Avellaneda making the game-winning field goal against Hillgrove bringing the final score to 29-26. Thinking it was the Seniors' last home game, they stepped up their intensity to clinch their victory against the Hawks. Hearing the roaring crowd for the last time really made them all work ten times harder.
Aat the end fo the season, the Jackets managed to become Region Champions for the first time in 26 years and made it to the First Round of State [Playoffs].
'It helps when we have our fellow classmates cheering us on and lifting our spirits.' said Senior Brian Walton."
