From The ECHO (Spring 1982):
"The Junior-dominated Varsity Football Team, had a very disappointing season this year . Close to two-thirds of the 1980 team graduated, leaving an inexperienced team to take over.
Everybody was waiting for the excitement of the Silver Season. August 28 began the Silver Season. Not only were they shut out four times, they also lost to the Raiders of Walton for the first time since the school has been in existence.
After the first two weeks of play, the season looked hopeless after losing to Walton and turning up nothing against Dalton.
The Jackets didn't give up easily. The next week found Top-Ranked North Cobb in a desperate situation [losing to Sprayberry].
Heading into the fifth week of play, the Jackets were 2-2. Little did they know that was going to be their best record of the season.
Both Wheeler and Douglas County managed to hold Sprayberry scoreless. The only [other] victory the Jackets managed to grasp was against Cherokee."
